In the first week of June, we concluded the 2026 DataScience@UL-FRI Project Competition. Again, a big thank you to everyone who was a part of this competition, from students to faculty and industry advisors. A special mention goes to our sponsors: In516ht, Medius, Teads, and PredictLeads. There would be no competition without you!

The competition started in January 2026 with student applications. This year we had 9 teams and 26 students working on 8 different project topics.

All teams successfully completed their project and five were invited to present their projects in the Project Competition Finals. Based on a combined score of 6 committee members, this years awardees were:

• First place: Tjaš Ajdovec, Gal Dvoršak, Denis Nedić - Slovenian-Language OCR Benchmark [DS@FRI].

• Second place: Dimitar Djorlev, Petar Mishov, Hristijan Jovanoski - Detecting and extracting multiple logos from a single image [PredictLeads].

• Third place: Erika Rosenfeld, Caio Simon, Diana Catana - Optimizing manufacturing processes with explainable AI [Medius].

• Fourth place: Guillem Masdemont, Plabon Shaha - AI-powered intelligent quote intake [In516ht].

• Fifth place: Aleksa Sibinović, Sara Ivanovska, Hristijan Milanovski - Quantifying and tracking changes in company landing pages [PredictLeads].
